Troy has new Snow Plan

Troy has new Snow Plan

In preparation for Wednesday’s snow, Troy is getting set to institute an odd/even parking system contingent upon the amount of snow that falls. Notification for this plan will be at least eight hours before the plan goes into effect, which is required by the City Code, authorities said in a release. City officials say residents are to disregard those permanent posted signs in the event that a snow emergency is declared.

For notification of a snow emergency, please consult the City website at www.troyny.gov, or the City of Troy’s Facebook page and Twitter account, which people can link directly to from the homepage of the city's website.

If Troy does declare a snow emergency, the odd/even parking system will begin at 7 a.m. the day after the snow emergency has been declared. On the first day that a snow emergency is in effect, there will be no parking on the ODD SIDE of the street from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. On the second day of a snow emergency, there will be no parking on the EVEN SIDE of the street from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

If all streets are not pushed back during the first two-day period, then the plan will recycle for the next two-day period. During the actual storm, city crews will be responsible for plowing and salting the streets to ensure that the streets are passable for normal vehicle traffic and emergency vehicles.

Based on the severity of the storm and direct observation by city staff and emergency personnel, at the same time that city crews are performing push back, private contractors may be used for snow removal in select areas of the city. The streets designated for snow removal will be posted “No Parking” and any vehicle in violation will be ticketed and towed.

Use of private contractors for snow removal will be based on the post storm snow accumulation as well as the immediate weather forecast following the storm, the city said in its release. Other than the streets designated for snow removal, cars parked in violation of the announced plan will be ticketed.

All residents are encouraged to utilize the 5th Avenue parking garage and the State Street parking garage, along with the city-surfaced parking areas located at the Little Italy Market lot, the Green Island lot, the Front Street lot, the 5th Avenue & Congress Street lot, the 4th Street lot which is between Ferry and Congress, the Y-Lot which is 1st Street between River and State Street, the Knickerbacker Ice Rink, the South Troy Pool and the Frear Park Golf Course.
