Sayers Charged with Attempted Murder

A Level 3 Sex Offender, still wearing his ankle bracelet, is now charged with attempted murder after targeting a woman he saw on a CDTA bus last week in Colonie, police said.

James Sayers, 43, was indicted and charged with Attempted Murder (2nd Degree) and Assault (1st Degree). Back on August 11 at 5:53 p.m., the Colonie Police Dept. got a call about a person yelling for help near the intersection of Watervliet Shaker Road and Wall St. Police say they found a 50-year old woman in a wooded area suffering from stabbings, police said.

Sayers targeted the woman on a bus, got off at Route 5/155 and followed her for about 1 ¼ miles on Route 155 before grabbing her from behind and dragging her into the woods, according to Chief Steve Heider. The woman was stabbed repeatedly around her head and neck, police said.

Sayers had just been released in May after serving 14 years of a 15 year sentence for robbery, police said. The woman was taken to Albany Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, treated and released on Tuesday, August 19.

Investigators include the Colonie P.D., NYS Div. of Parole, Albany P.D., U.S. Marshal’s NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Albany Co. D.A.
