Suspension of Amtrak line between Rensselar and NYC could be looming

Even though those involved say it's unlikely to occur, a possible suspension of some Amtrak rail service is looming in New York and 9 other states, including Vermont and Massachusetts if officials don't come to a cost-sharing agreement before October 1st. This is required under legislation passed by Congress several years ago - requiring states to share costs for routes of up to 750 miles.

Bruce Becker, president of the Empire State Passengers Association, tells News Radio 810 & 103.1 WGY he is optimistic a deal can be reached before the deadline. The Rensselaer to New York City route, which could be affected, is one of the system's busiest with just under 100-thousand passengers in July alone.
