State Trooper Dies Of Injuries (UPDATE)

UPDATED INFORMATION-DETAILS TO COME

State Police say the Trooper injured Monday night around 8:30 p.m. on the Thruway near Amsterdam is on life-support, in grave condition, after being hit by a tractor-trailer.

The crash happened on the Thruway eastbound near Amsterdam and Exit 27. The crash closed the highway overnight. Trooper David Cunniff, 35, stopped a car driven by Eric Heller, 57, of Stoney Creek in Warren County. That's when the truck hit both cars on the side of the Thruway, forcing the cars about 50-yards.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Gary Blakley, 65, of Ridgeway, Ontario was traveling east on I-90 at the time of the accident and was not injured, police said. Heller was also taken to Albany Medical Center. The highway was reopened around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Cunniff has a wife and two children and we're told that they are by his side at Albany Med. His injury is described as massive head trauma, police said.
