For the second time in as many days, a Glenville Police dispatcher had to talk a dad through delivering his own child. This time, Dispatcher JoAnne McPhail received the 911 call at 3:25 a.m. Saturday from Louis Cruz.
He said his wife Megan, 27, was about to deliver their baby. McPhail, using the guideline of EMD (emergency medical dispatch) and her training was able to talk Cruz through the delivery. He even had to distract his other son by having him go look for a Ninja Turtle in his room. He tied off the umbilical cord with a shoelace until medical help arrived at his Spring Street home.
In the meantime, healthy baby girl Abigail was born at 3:29 a.m., 8 lbs., 11 oz. and 20 ½ inches long, police said. Abigail and Megan were transported to Ellis Hospital’s Bellevue campus and are reported to be in great condition.
